A catalogue of books and tracts, printed at the private press of the Hon. Horace Walpole, (afterwards Earl of Orford), at Strawberry Hill, ca. 1883.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of an annotated list of Horace Walpole's letters, works, and Strawberry Hill Press publications. The entries include commentaries on each work, quotations from other publications regarding the work, and other bibliographic information. The volume also contains entries for later editions of Walpole's works as well as of later commentaries on his works and on his collections and estates. Also included are several copies of letters by Walpole about the Strawberry Hill Press. Pasted in throughout are dealers' descriptions of Walpole's correspondence; and, at the end of the mansucript, several pages of dealers' descriptions of books owned by Walpole, a printed catalogue of Walpole's library to be sold by Sotheby, Wilkinson, and Hodge in 1880, and articles about the sale of Strawberry Hill estate. Pasted inside the back flyleaf and back cover are printed advertisements for that sale, dated 1883, a plan of the estate, and a handwritten ticket dated 1881 directing Mr Hulse, gardener of Strawberry Hill, to admit Edward J. Sage to view the mansion and grounds.

Dr. John Allen (1771-1843) was a political and historical writer. In 1791 he graduated with an MD from the University of Edinburgh. In 1801, in his capacity as a doctor, he accompanied Lord Holland to Spain, and on his return to England became a regular inmate of Holland House. Although he served in 1806 as under-secretary to the commissioners for treating with America, Allen is best known for his social life at Holland House, especially as documented in his diary.
